Rosalie Bay Distilling

Ocean’s Forward

A new model of conservation. Poured to Protect.

In 1985 there were 125,000 Leatherback turtles. Today, there are just 25,000.

On the shores of Dominica, Rosalie Bay Distilling is the not-for-profit craft rum distillery rewriting the future of ocean conservation. The first, and only, of its kind in the world.

This farm-to-flask craft distillery is restoring equilibrium between community and nature, employing vulnerable coastal communities and funding vital marine conservation to create a circular economy.

For two years, we have been working directly with scientist founder, Jake Levenson, to build this brand from the ground up.

Every element has a purpose. Making mark, leaving no trace.

Distil. Protect. Return.

Local farmers grow and harvest sugar cane. The juice is distilled in a carbon neutral, hurricane-resistant distillery. The same hands that produce the rum protect our turtles. 100% of revenue is returned to the community and sustained conservation.

The circular economy.

Not only does the bottle represent the self-sufficient process, but has as light of a footprint as possible - we are even experimenting printing using bio-char, the bi-product of sugar cane to keep the process as closed-loop as possible.

The bottle that starts the story.

This complex and delicate tale took two years of crafting to distill onto bottle.

Whilst most rum brands map the land, we did the opposite. The custom packaging is designed with “Bathymetry lines”, oceanographic charts that plot the depth of the ocean surrounding Dominica.

The lock up is designed around the four elements of Rosalie Bay; the distillery, the turtles, the sperm whales and the community.

Each shape is drawn from real life - even the curvature of the local whales’ tails, Fingers and Digit.
