When I was thirteen I wrote a fake letter from our school principal informing parents that every student needed a flip phone “for security reasons”. It was printed on official letterhead, of course. Don’t ask how I got my hands on that.

I’m Charlotte, a Senior Copywriter at Howatson+Co Sydney. I make work that works.

Today, I write less forgeries and more lateral, behaviour-changing campaigns. 

I’ve composed the National Anthem of the Ocean that’s part of the school curriculum.

It has since won an ARIA (Australia’s Grammys) in the first year an advertising category was introduced.

I’ve used data to unearth the next generation of female surfing talent, increasing participation by 6%.

And launched a rum brand on a desert island, changing the model of conservation.

But here’s the twist. I wasn’t always a copywriter in a professional sense. I was a Senior Communications Strategist and Connections Planner. In this past life, I lead portfolio and campaign strategy across Nestle, Coca-Cola, Lion and American Express, writing strategies that later became blueprints for global markets. This has been called “my secret sauce” and has given me the unique ability to craft and shape campaigns with an understanding of how ideas live in the world.

On the topic of world, I’m on a mission to protect the one we live in. So I’m creating an agency with Sydney University pairing scientists with creatives to solve the world’s greatest problem. Climate change.
